There are three different types of lasers, all with different capabilities that can be used for different toned skin

• Alexandrite Lasers – these are the most effective lasers, but are safest on light skin as they have shorter wavelengths (Melanin in your skin and hair is more susceptible shorter wavelengths of light). This type of laser should not be used on darker skinned people.
• Pulsed Diode Array – this facial hair removal laser is best for medium to light types of skin
• Nd:YAG – this laser is the best laser for dark skinned people. Because the Nd:YAG laser as longer wavelengths, the melanin absorbed less light with longer wavelengths. So, while this is not as effective as the alexandrite lasers, it is much safer for people with darker skin colors.

For those with very light hair or peach fuzz, laser facial hair removal is probably an option that will not work.

As you can tell, it’s very important (especially if you have darker skin) that the doctor you go to has the proper laser facial hair removal equipment. It’s also very important that your doctor has the requisite skill and experience to perform the procedure, as laser hair removal is both a science and an art in that each procedure will be different depending on the patient.

How Many Times Are Required To Facial Laser Hair Removal To Be Effective?

Because there are so many variations that can be done with laser hair removal, it is very difficult to say exactly how many treatments will be required without speaking with your doctor. However, generally speaking, facial laser hair removal does require more frequent treatments, with the average person going through 3-9 initial treatments.
